Window Cleaning in Corona Del Mar, Ca

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

Today we were contacted by Chad Rogers from Bravo Tv’s popular show, “Million Dollar Listings.” He said that he needed some window washers for a home that would be on his show. It is on the market for $9.5 million, which is understandable for this beautiful ocean-view home on Shell St in Corona Del Mar. Believe it or not, they were actually filming the show when we were cleaning the windows and these guys made a point of it to film us doing some work. Needless to say, we were pretty excited and were trying not to fumble over our words when the camera was on us. Chad and his “Million Dollar Crew” were a class act and we wish the best for them.

They told us that the episode is due to air in June or July of 2009, and it should be the 3rd or 4th episode of the new season. Obviously, we are now big fans of Bravo TV and look forward to getting some exposure on a national network.

Here is a video of Matt using a pure-water system with a water-fed-pole to clean a large staircase window that had large amounts of vegetation covering the window that restricted ladder use. It’s sure nice having the right tools for the job.

We clean awnings in Orange County and Los Angeles, CA

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

Whether its for your home or business, if you have an awning, it will seemingly attract dirt 2x as fast as the siding that it’s attached too. But don’t despair, there is a solution for your awning cleaning problems. Whether it is a fabric awning like a canvas material, which is pictured below in the video that we took at a customer’s home in Irvine, or any other kind of awning. We have the right tools for the job. But don’t be fooled by any window cleaning and pressure washing so-called pro’s who have a pressure washer. Awnings are very delicate and are damaged by far-to-often by inexperienced pressure washing dudes.

This video shows us downstreaming an awning cleaning agent and protectant onto the canvas awning. The video shows just the second step of our 4 step awning washing procedure. We hope you enjoy!

House washing experts in Orange County, CA

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

Hi there,

Here is a video of one of our house washing techniques. This method utilizes practically no pressure and a very gentle scrubbing action. This particular home had a siding similar to a plastic type siding so our softwashing methods kept the integrity of this home safe.

This particular home is owned by a nice lady named Jackie, who was shocked to see how clean her siding came. All it needed was a splash of our house washing detergents followed up by a gentle scrub and rinse.

How to squeegee a window with a “fanning” method

Saturday, April 11th, 2009

There are so many ways to squeegee a window. When I train my helpers, I always teach them the straight pull methods first. The rule of thumb with this method is that if the window is higher than it is wider, then pull down. If it is wider than it is higher, then you can pull across.

When performing the straight pull method, keep in mind that you will leave streaks so a good detailing rag is essential. I suggest having plenty of blue surgical towels “aka huck towels”. Another good detailing rag is the scrim, which is a sheep linen. This rag commonly comes in a large size (about 3′x3′). If you can get your hands on this rag, I suggest you do so because it dries out so quickly and usually 2 scrim can get you through an entire day of cleaning and detailing windows.

If you feel like the straight pull method just ain’t cutting it for you, step up to the big-boy league and learn how to fan. There are many different types of fanning methods, and there is no one method that will work on every window. However, the principle remains the same: don’t take the squeegee off of the glass once you start.

Here is an extremely low-quality home-made video from my camera phone of a fanning technique on a piece of glass that is quite narrow but a few feet high. I am using a 12 inch ettore pro curve plus squeegee.

Again, sorry for the terrible video, but you can always check out youtube for some more videos of people fanning a window. Some people call it the “super swirl” and some people call it fanning, while others still don’t know what they want to call it.

I like to call it, “the get-me-home-quicker”…

Removing Hard-Water Spots in Hacienda Heights, Ca

Friday, April 10th, 2009

Hard water spots are usually found on the glass next to the irrigation or sprinkler heads. People have made homemade concoctions for many years that help remove these spots, such as various combinations of lemon, vinegar, baking soda, and the list goes on… But if you want professional results, you need to use professional products. One of the best on the market is a hydrochloric acid called “Safe Restore.” It is made by a EacoChem and it must be used with caution. This product has various outdoor cleaning and restoration uses, but it’s bread and butter is removing silicate deposits on glass.

While working in Orange County today, we encountered some of the worst hard-water spots that we have ever seen on a home. Usually the worst spotting occurs on industrial buildings because it is easy for property managers to overlook this maintenance need.

The right side of the glass has been restored, but it still doesn’t look so hot because the double-paned glass had lost its integrity. The seal had been blown for over a year or two, and the homeowner was aware of that, but he still wanted the outer surface of the glass restored.

Chalk up another victory for “Safe Restore”

New Slimline Wagtail

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

That’s right, coming this Friday to Window Cleaning Resource is the new slimline wagtail squeegee. This squeegee is an improvement over the previous wagtail because…

1) you can interchange any standard brass, stainless steel, or aluminum channel
2) throw this squeegee into your BOAB (bucket on a belt).
3) the flipper comes with a pad that holds more water.
4) the blue color pivot and handle is much more sightly than the previous yellow one

The previous wagtail squeegee had an aluminum channel that was too wide to fit into a BOAB.

Homemade Window Cleaning Recipes

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

If you’re looking to maintain a few of your favorite windows before your next professional window cleaning, it may be easier than you think. And just because you don’t our special squeegees, dynamic cleaning solutions, and a plethora of stuff that we haul around doesn’t mean that you can’t touch-up that dining room window.

Here’s what we recommend…

Take a bucket of warm water and add a splash of your favorite dishsoap. Some people recommend adding a little vinegar to this solution, but we think it would be unnecessary, especially if your just had your windows cleaned professionally within the last few months. Take a window cleaning scrubbing bad, or a very soft bristled brush, and scrub the window. Before it dries, do your best to squeegee without leaving any streaks (don’t be upset if it takes a few attempts to get it streak-free). Here’s a tip for when you’re squeegeeing, if the window is taller than it is wider, then pull down. If it is wider than it is taller, then pull across.

So you’re dishsoap solution isn’t going to be bullet-proof because it will likely attract dirt back to the glass faster than a professional solution, but it will do as a hold-me-over until you’re ready for your next service.

Gutter Cleaning and Installing Gutter Filters in Los Angeles, Ca

Monday, April 6th, 2009

While cleaning some gutters in Los Angeles today, we were able to install some gutter filters to prevent downspout clogging. These filtration systems are available at many hardware stores and are very affordable. They have a long life and help prevent future overflow from gutters being clogged by leaves and debris.

They even work for non-traditional gutter systems, such as these funnel gutters.

Window Washing Robot

Sunday, April 5th, 2009

A group of engineering students from MSU have created what they are calling the “Winboni.” It is an automated window washer machine that attached on the glass surface through suction fans and cleans office glass or residential glass with felt pads.

Although the design is in early stages, these students are hoping to improve on this design and hope that one day it will take the place of many professional window cleaners.

If this design improves much more, I might consider buying a few myself…
